Comparing roll stiffness and lateral load transfer using raw vehicle data
Date
April 2025
In this project for FSAE, I used the data collected from linear potentiometers on the car's dampers and built in accelerometers to compare vehicle performance with and without an anti roll bar. I plotted the car's roll angle against lateral g-force, then used a curve fit to derive values for the roll stiffness and lateral load transfer distribution. Data run 21 was collected with the ARB and run 28 was collected without the ARB. This project shows how using an ARB gives a lower roll rate and a more even lateral load transfer.
